Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly. It is important to know the signs and when to seek medical help. You can find full guidance on the NHS website
Symptoms of meningitis
- Symptoms can develop suddenly and may include:
- High temperature (fever)
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache
- A rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it (note: a rash does not always appear)
- Stiff neck
- Sensitivity to bright lights
- Drowsiness or difficulty waking
- Confusion or unresponsiveness
- Seizures (fits)
When to get urgent help
Call 999 or go to A&E immediately if you think you or someone else may have meningitis.
