Patient Participation Group
Our Patient Participation Group (PPG) meets to provide a forum for discussion about the practice.
What is a patient participation group (PPG)?
A PPG is a group of people who are patients of the surgery and want to help it work as well as it can for patients, doctors and staff.
Why should I join?
You have been to the surgery as a patient, parent, carer or friend. Your experiences matter and you can bring different ideas to the surgery to help us treat patients better or to improve what we do in some way. You will also gain a better understanding of the NHS, and gather feedback from other patients.
Will my views be heard?
Your views are important and will be listened to. It may not be possible to act on every suggestion, but all feedback is very valuable. Working in a spirit of mutual respect, openness and trust, all patients’ views will be discussed and, where appropriate, we will work together on solutions.
How often does the patient participation group meet?
We’ll meet at the surgery on the first occasion, so everybody can put a name to a face. We know that you are busy, so we’ll only plan an in-person meet up once a year and hope that you can join us. We will communicate regularly via email. If you can’t make meetings then don’t worry – you can still be part of our virtual group.
How do I join?
You can register your interest to join Parklands Surgery PPG by writing your name, date of birth and address on a slip of paper and sending it to the surgery addressed to the Practice Manager, or you can submit an online contact form and include your details. You are also welcome to drop into the reception and hand your details to a member of our team, who will pass them on to the Manager.
We look forward to seeing you.

Moving Towards Paperless Prescription Requests
From 1 April 2026, the practice will begin gradually introducing paperless prescription requests.
This change aims to:
- Improve patient safety
- Reduce the risk of lost or incorrect requests
- Ensure prescriptions are requested only when medications are due
- Support safer prescribing processes
Patients will be encouraged to use:
- Online services
- The NHS App
Support will be available for anyone who feels less confident using digital systems.
Discussion
- How can we best support patients during this transition?
- Evening help group for the less tech-abled?
Pharmacy Ordering Changes
The practice will be stopping automatic prescription ordering from large chain pharmacies.
This change is being introduced because:
- Many prescriptions are being requested without patients actively ordering them
- This leads to medication waste and unnecessary NHS costs
- Patients sometimes receive medicines they did not request or need
The practice will continue working closely with local pharmacies, including Kamsons and Stephens, who provide a collaborative and patient-focused service.
Key Priority: Paperless Prescriptions
Move towards digital prescribing in line with NHS direction.
Promotion of NHS App and online services.
Support available for patients:
- One-to-one help setting up apps/accounts – support group date 7th May at 2pm.
- Alternative options for those unable to use digital services
Emphasis on safety and efficiency benefits.
PPG Chairperson

- Help coordinate meetings
- Support communication between patients and the practice
- Encourage constructive discussion and ideas

The practice vaccinates approximately 2,000 patients during our Saturday flu clinics each October.
This represents a valuable opportunity to engage with a large number of patients, particularly those in vulnerable groups.

- Health promotion stands (blood pressure awareness, diabetes prevention)

- NHS App support and digital assistance
Improving Patient Access to Information
Possible areas for development:
- Increasing awareness and use of the NHS App
